Welcome to the Middleton St. George website, which contains information about the village of Middleton St. George in the north-east of England. You can access a calendar of events, and you can see all the recent news bulletins.
We’re attempting to set up a Men’s Shed for Middleton St George and the surrounding areas. If you’re not aware of the Men’s Shed movement, it originated in Australia but is spreading quickly across the globe. It has been built around a wellness and mental health perspective, aiming to reach out to men in the community who may not have other places for socialising. While it has had proven success in this area and we hope that will be a byproduct of what we’re doing, we’re not focusing on that side of things and we particularly don’t want to publicise it in that way (and risk excluding people). Instead, we hope it will be a shared place for coming together regularly and undertaking projects and activities in a friendly, informal environment.
Typical Men’s Shed activities often involve traditional crafts such as joinery, wood turning, metal work etc but they are not limited to that and often involve more activity based things such as walks, photo walks, cooking demos, bike repair sessions, movie nights, bowling nights, painting, technology builds or talks from external people/community members (perhaps things like the local history society). Given our current lack of dedicated space for tools, etc we’re going to be focused on the more activity based side of things and see where the members would like to go with it.
Thank you to those who submitted their ideas and opinions. We will analyse the results and let you know the key points before producing a Parish Plan.
Parish Council Meetings
Middleton St. George Parish Council normally meets at 6:30 p.m.on the second Monday of each month in the Parish Meeting Room at the Water Park, Middleton St. George.
Agendas for the meetings are displayed on the village notice boards – outside the Post Office, on the Virginia Estate and on The Front at Middleton-One-Row (opposite the Devenport Hotel). Agendas will also be made available on this web site.
Parish Council meetings are open to the public. The Council does have the power to exclude the public from part of a meeting if it judges that publicity would be prejudicial to the public interest because of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted, but this happens very, very rarely. In practice, you’re very welcome to attend Middleton St. George Parish Council meetings. Come along and find out what your Parish Council is doing for Middleton St. George.
Agendas and minutes of the Parish Council meetings are available on this web site. Follow the link at the left hand side of this page.
If you would like any further information about the Parish Council, or if you have any issues that you wish to bring to the attention of the Council, please contact the Clerk to Middleton St. George Parish Council, Mr. Alan Macnab.
