Fighting Cocks Heritage Hub

Dear Resident,

The Parish Council, along with the MSG S&DR Heritage Steering Group and the Friends of Stockton & Darlington Railway, are working on ways in which we can preserve, manage and improve the historic railway heritage in Middleton St George, especially in view of the forthcoming 2025 bicentenary of the S&DR.

Part of the project for the Fighting Cocks Heritage Hub is looking to install artwork, and we would like you to send us your ideas.

Fighting Cocks Station – Proposal for mural on garage wall facing footpath

Ideas are required for this mural and all suggestions will be considered.  The mural should contain aspects of the heritage of the area and not necessarily be all railway associated.  Needs to be something that will make people who are walking along the footpath stop to admire and not just glance at it and continue their walk.  Could be an amalgam of several ideas which are interconnected.

Interpretation board will be provided explaining about the area and the content of the mural.

The wall of the garage is about 24 feet in length and about 8 feet in height.

Are there any local artists who would be willing to undertake the creation of this mural?

Does anyone in the area have any old photos and documents, newspapers, etc which may be of use?

Please email your ideas and any information to Cllr Gilsenan: catherine.gilsenan@yahoo.com

Artwork Installation on roundabout at junction of A67 and Mill Lane

Ideas are required for something which reflects the heritage of the area.  Various ways to do this but the installation must not obscure any traffic using these roads. Could be something low down above the perimeter curbs but this would have to be facing each direction so possibly 3 or 4 small installations.  A single central installation would have to be higher up and probably not a solid structure.  Therefore something that lets light through such as a 2 dimensional laser cut steel sign.  This could face east/west so being a single sheet of steel the image would be seen from both directions.

Please email your ideas and any information to Cllr Gilsenan: catherine.gilsenan@yahoo.com

Looking forward to receiving your ideas!

Many thanks,

Cllr Catherine Gilsenan

Chairman, Middleton St. George Parish Council.
