Winnies Pond Restoration – Urgent Message

Winnies  POND RESTORATION

Please keep dogs on a lead

Do not enter the fenced off area

This pond has been invaded by a non-native plant called New Zealand Pygmyweed or Crassula helmsii. This plant out-competes our native water plants, it depletes the oxygen levels and shades out the underwater environment. As the oxygen levels lower the pond life declines and dies out and the pond eventually becomes swamped by the plant and dries out.

We will be addressing this problem over the next few weeks using a herbicide to eradicate the Crassula helmsii.

We will also be digging a new pond to provide a new habitat. Vegetation will naturally regenerate around the pond edges.
